Yesterday word came out that Mick Cronin was about to sign an extension. Later in the night, it happened. The Cincinnati coach signed a 3 year extension to remain Bearcats coach. It bumps his salary up to $1.25 million a year. Word was last night that Cronin was going to sign on for 6 more years, but that wasn't the case. Cronin signed an extension before last season, which took him through 2014. The new contract takes him through 2017.
All in all, I think this is a very good move. UC didn't have to break the $2 million bank like Marquette did for Buzz Williams. They got Cronin locked in to an acceptable deal. If things fall apart, one would think his buyout wouldn't be a hindrance in making a change. It keeps stability for the Cincinnati program.
Real life is getting in the way of a deeper write up about Cronin. That will come tomorrow. But for now, here's the One Shining Moment video from last night. I'm one of the millions, and millions, that thought the game was complete ass. I couldn't watch it live, and at about the 10 minute mark when it was clear Butler was losing, I fast forwarded to the end. I don't think anyone can blame me. OSM nearly made up for the game though. It featured a Bearcat, in exactly the way one would think.
