Predicting Every Bowl Game

Written by Scott on .

I'm sick and damn tired of talking about UC and Xavier and the fight. It's time to move on. Since bowl season starts this weekend, and my friend Mike is running a bowl game pick contest, I figured that I would predict every single bowl game. To add to the fun, I'll explain my reasoning. Sounds like a party. Let's do this. Winners in bold. Where's my crystal ball?

December 17, 2 pm. Gildan New Mexico Bow, Albuquerque, NM: Wyoming vs Temple. I'm going with Temple here for the simple reason that Wyoming being good at football would be very weird. I can't imagine anyone ever good coming from there. Casey Bramlet went to Wyoming. Yeah.

December 17, 5:30. Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, Boise ID. Ohio vs Utah State. Staying with the MAC here, even though it's a home game for Utah State. Maybe. Only remember 1 Utah State game on the smurf turf, and it was a Humanitarian Bowl ass kicking in 1997.

Rest after the jump. Obviously.

December 17, 9. R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, New Orleans, LA. San Diego St vs Louisiana-Lafayette. There can not be a chance in hell that San Diego St gives one shit about this game. Not a one.

December 20, 8 pm. Beef 'O' Brady's St Petersburg Bowl, St Petersburg, FL. Florida International vs Marshall. Saw FIU in person, loved T.Y Hilton. Marshall kind of blows. And I'm not picking a C-USA team to win a bowl game.

December 21, 8 pm. San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, San Diego, CA. TCU vs Louisiana Tech. If this was a confidence pool, I would have the most points on TCU. They win easy. Bet your life on it. Seriously. Do it.

December 22, 8 pm. MAACO Bowl Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NV. Boise State vs Arizona State. I've seen Rizo St play a handful of times and I can seriously say I hate watching them play. Boise is good and they never lose.

December 24, 8 pm Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, Honolulu, HI. Southern Miss vs Nevada. I really think Southern Miss is going to win, but I said that I'm not picking any C-USA team, which really handcuffed me. Can't go back on a promise in the first 400 words of a post. My daddy taught me that.

December 26, 5 pm. AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl, Shreveport, LA. North Carolina vs Missouri. I kind of dig Mizzou. UNC has no coach and I doubt anyone on their team is going to care about going to the glorious town of Shreveport the day after Christmas.

December 27, 4:30 pm. Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, Detroit, MI. Purdue vs Western Michigan. Pretty sure Purdue sucks, but they are a Big 10 team. They should not lose to a MAC team in a pizza bowl. Boiler up for pizza.

December 27, 8. Belk Bowl, Charlotte, NC. North Carolina State vs Louisville. I think Louisville has a chance to win, and quite frankly should win. I'm picking NC State for the sole reason of they are playing at home and they should want to win.

December 28, 4:30 pm. Military Bowl, Washington DC. Toledo vs Air Force. How can you go against Air Force in the Military Bowl? I'm sure as hell not doing it. If you do, you are a commie bastard.

December 28, 8. Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl, San Diego, CA. Cal vs Texas. I think Texas has given up on the season and enjoy the work of Mike Silver, but I haven't seen Cal play for 1 single second this year. So the pick is Texas. Hook 'em.

December 29, 5:30 pm. Champs Sports Bowl, Orlando, FL. Florida State vs Notre Dame. I think Florida State actually has good players, and I'm not sold on the Irish at all. And really, fuck Brian Kelly, right?

December 29, 9. Valero Alamo Bowl, San Antonio, TX. Baylor vs Washington. Classic recipe for blowout. Heisman winner, home state, bad PAC 12 team. Love ya, RG3.

December 30, 12 pm. Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, Dallas, TX. BYU vs Tulsa. I am going with BYU for the sole reason that Tulsa plays in C-USA.

December 30, 3:20. New Era Pinstripe Bowl, New York, NY. Iowa State vs Rutgers. Name 1 reason on Earth why Iowa State would possibly care about this game? I expect the score to be 17-13.

December 30, 6:40 Franklin Am. Mortgage Music City Bowl, Nashville, TN. Wake Forest vs Mississippi State. Kind of solid SEC team or average at best ACC team? Randolph Childress is pulling for you, Wake.

December 30, 10. Insight Bowl, Tempe, AZ. Iowa vs Oklahoma. This has #BeatEmDown written all over it. Iowa is one of those teams that always seems good, even if they aren't. Like this year. Kind of want to pick them in an upset.

December 31, 12 pm. Meineke Car Care of Texas Bowl, Houston, TX. Northwestern vs Texas A&M. I'm sure there is going to be no defense played in this game. Northwestern blows though. A&M should rout.

December 31, 2. Hyundai Sun Bowl, El Paso, TX. Georgia Tech vs Utah. I really like Tech, even though they faded incredibly badly down the stretch. Option all day long, baby.

December 31, 3:30. AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Memphis, TN. Cincinnati vs Vanderbilt. Like I'm picking Vanderbilt here. I do think that Vanderbilt might win though. No I don't. Do I? Read the preview on the 30th.

December 31, 3:30. Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, San Francisco, CA. Illinois vs UCLA. This is a horrible game. I can't imagine anyone watching it. Illinois because why not?

December 31, 7:30. Chick-fil-A Bowl, Atlanta, GA. Virginia vs Auburn. For some reason I always love the Chick-fil-A game. Maybe because that place is fucking awesome. Auburn is good. Virginia is kind of good. Auburn is better.

January 2, 12 pm. TicketCity Bowl, Dallas, TX. Penn State vs Houston. Houston would be a team I would pick, but they are losing their coach. Penn State has a defense as well. I'm going to guess they care and will win.

January 2, 1. Outback Bowl, Tampa, FL. Michigan State vs Georgia. I remember what happened in the Michigan State vs SEC bowl game last year. I expect a repeat.

January 2, 1. Capital One Bowl, Orlando, FL. Nebraska vs South Carolina. I've been going back and forth on this one. I just don't like Nebraska. That's the sole reason for this pick.

Januray 2, 1. Taxslayer.com Gator Bowl, Jacksonville, FL. Ohio State vs Florida. I kind of think Ohio State is going to win here. Mainly because Florida stopped caring about their season a long time ago. Why are all of these Florida bowl games at the same time?

January 2, 5. Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA. Wisconsin vs Oregon. I really like Wisconsin. I think they have a solid chance at beating the Ducks. But I don't think they can get stops like they did against Michigan State. Kind of like last season against TCU.

January 2, 8:30. Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, Glendale, AZ. Oklahoma State vs Stanford. This one should have a ton of points. It probably won't because the offenses won't have played in a month. Oklahoma State will be too deflated from not playing in the title game.

January 3, 8:30 pm. Allstate Sugar Bowl, New Orleans, LA. Michigan vs Virginia Tech. I'm not the biggest Michigan fan on the planet, and especially of them somehow getting a great bowl game like this. I just don't buy Virginia Tech. Never have this season. Michigan shuts up the doubters.

January 4, 8:30 pm. Discover Orange Bowl, Miami, FL. Clemson vs West Virginia. I hate both of these teams. West Virginia can go to hell.

January 6, 8 pm. AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic, Arlington, TX. Kansas State vs Arkansas. I really like this Arkansas team. This should be a high scoring game. It should be because I said it. Klein is a stud.

January 7, 1 pm. BBVA Compass Bowl, Birmingham, AL. Pittsburgh vs SMU. I'm going with SMU now that June Jones is staying. Pittsburgh already hates this game and I can't see that changing as it gets closer.

January 8, 9 pm. GoDaddy.com Bowl, Mobile, AL. Northern Illinois vs Arkansas State. I've not seen Arky State play, but I'm very taken with their record and accomplishments this season. Northern Illinois will probably score a lot of points.

January 9, 8:30 pm. Allstate BCS National Championship Game, New Orleans, LA. LSU vs Alabama. I'm picking Alabama for 1 reason, to fuck everything up. We all know LSU is the best team. They won at Alabama. They beat Oregon. They beat the brakes off Arkansas. They beat the brakes off of Georgia. So they will lose a heart breaker to Alabama and we will have a split national champion.
