In a loud US Bank Arena filled with a majority of Cincinnati fans, the Cincinnati Bearcats used a big second half to beat the Xavier Musketeers 60-45 in the Crosstown Shootout.
The Bearcats used a big second half from Sean Kilpatrick to break things open. Kilpatrick finished with a game high 25 points. He scored 18 of those in the second half. SK could not be stopped going to the basket. It was fun to watch. I swear, this guy is very special. Players like this don't come around very often. We were spoiled in the 90s and early 2000s. Sean Kilpatrick is absolutely a throwback to those days. He's a hell of a player. I'm glad he's on our team.
The entire game wasn't a joy to watch. UC shot 32.8%. Xavier shot 37.7%. It was ugly. The game was also marred by Xavier's guards Semaj Christon and Dee Davis battling cramps the entire second half. Christon didn't play. Davis busted his ass on one leg before fouling out with 5 minutes left. I don't think that Xavier would have won if those guys stayed healthy, but it warrants mentioning. Cashmere Wright took advantage of the matchups he was given after that. He scored 15 points. He made 3 three pointers.
What also warrants mentioning is that this is the first Cincinnati senior class to record 2 victories over Xavier in nearly a decade. Cincinnati has now won 2 of 3 over the Musketeers. It's been 5 years since we've been able to say that. It's great to say. I'm pumped. Know who else is pumped?
