Bearcats Lock Down Huge Win Over Louisville

Written by Scott on .

For the 4th time this season, Cincinnati knocked off a top 25 team. For the first time though, they did it a home. I stole that stat from Paul Dehner Jr. The Bearcats beat the rival Louisville Cardinals 60-56. The game was marred by poor shooting on both ends. Cincinnati shot 33%, Louisville 34%. The officials were brutal both ways. They called questionable fouls on plays with no contact, called questionable fouls on plays with plenty of contact, called make up calls, and called a horrible travel on Louisville late in the game as a make up to when Russ Smith fell down and UC was called for a foul. Not the best night for the zebras. They definitely had an impact.

They didn't have as much of an impact as Cashmere Wright. The junior guard put 22 on Louisville with 5 boards and 5 assists. Only 1 turnover. He had 20 last year against the Cards. Yancy Gates brought his work boots finishing with 9-10. Dion Dixon didn't have a great shooting night, but had 5 boards, 2 steals and 3 blocks. One of his 3 FGs was a big dunk over Chane Behanan that put UC up 46-45. Kenyon Martin Jr I tell you.

The Bearcats defense was great on the Louisville guards not named Peyton Siva. Siva was 7-13 for 14 points with 5 boards and 4 assists. Kyle Kuric was 0-11, 0-7 from 3 with only 4 free throws. Chris Smith was 0-4, 0-1, 2-2 at the line. The Louisville bigs of Gorgui Dieng and Chane Behanan and Siva went 15-26. The rest of the team was 6-29. Great defense by the Bearcats.

The one dark spot was that JaQuon Parker went down awkwardly in the first half and didn't play much if any in the second half. UC can't afford to lose him.

Games like this require the gif. You know it, I know it. Here it is. Under it is the box score via espn
